Term dates for community schools in Gateshead starting in September 2026 are set by Gateshead Council for all Local Authority maintained schools.

The return date for the 2026/27 school year is Wednesday 2 September 2026. All dates are inclusive. Tuesday 1 September 2026 is an INSET day where school is closed to pupils.

In addition to the above dates, schools will be closed to pupils on Monday 3rd May 2027 (Bank Holiday).

INSET days and OCCASIONAL day will be confirmed when determined and agreed by the school governing body.

Training Days (PD Days)

Pupils are taught for 190 days each year.  The 2027/28 school year has 193 days, therefore schools will be closed to pupils for 3 days to allow for training (PD Days). Your child’s school will let you know when these days will be held.

The proposed return date for the 2028/29 school year is Monday 4 September 2028. All dates are inclusive.
