Fruit and vegetables!

This morning Reception went on a local walk to Whickham village! We started off by making a class shopping list in school with a list of fruit and vegetables we wanted to buy. We then went to the fruit and veg shop to buy our items! We ticked off each item on the list, collecting them as we went around the shop. We then paid the man for what we had chosen. We listened to the amount he told us and we counted the money out for him. A big thank you to the staff who were so helpful and welcoming to us!

We spoke about the different fruits and vegetables that were in the shop and we held them to see which were heavy and which were light. We spoke about which fruits have seeds in when we cut them open and which vegetables grow in the ground.

Once back at school we then turned our home corner area into our own fruit and veg shop. We made labels with the names and cost of each item. We have also made our own farm area using soil, fruit and vegetables. Our investigation area has a tray with different fruits and vegetables on which we are going to look at, touch and discuss.
