Over a series of lessons, Year 5 have explored making cams and follower mechanisms. We selected materials and tested different ideas, exploring the impact of cam shapes on movement. Then, once we had a working cam and follower, we looked at how to solve the problem of a ‘wobbly’ follower. We also made handles for our shafts, to help operate our mechanism.
