While some of our Year Sixes were at Nissan, the remaining Year Six children spent an amazing day developing their VEX robotics skills and knowledge.
In the morning session, we built and adapted a motor-powered dragster. Once the testing began, we realised that the size of the gears made a huge difference to how many rotations the wheels of the vehicle made. We explored ways we could adjust the gear ratios to achieve the most rotations and pretty soon our dragsters we at top speed.

In the afternoon we faced a different challenge, we built the robots vehicle that used two motors for steering and then we programmed them using online using scratch code.
Our robots needed to navigate a series of turns while at the same time sensing for a track tile that was red and then for an object that was blue. Once the blue object was found our robot needed to activate an electromagnet to pick it up and carry it back base. We had to figure out how to make some parts of our code run repeatedly while still running other instructions to control the motors. Needless to say, our Year 6 children were up to the challenge. Keep an eye out for news of further vex challenges scheduled to happen soon…
