In Reception we have been learning about Lunar New Year. We read a story called ‘The Great Race’ and learnt about why different animals are celebrated each new year. We then developed our ordinality skills by placing the animals in the order that they finished the race. We practised writing the symbols for numbers as well as using our maths resources to make these numbers practically. We enjoyed playing in the home corner this week as it was transformed into a Chinese takeaway, as well as using our mud kitchen outdoors to create ‘muddy noodle soup’. We even had a taste of some Chinese foods such as prawn crackers, spring rolls, egg fried rice and soy sauce- (not many of us liked the sauce!).
